Chapter 3.0 A New Job

After graduating high school Enya quickly scored herself a new job. She had a placement at Miranda Kate, she couldn’t believe her luck. Her aunt had told her how her grandmother an once been Miranda Kate’s muse and she couldn’t wait to start working for the renowned fashion house.

She sped off in her new vintage car, eager to begin.

As she stepped into the elevators she felt the nervousness building up in her stomach. She knew she was early, but figured that was better than being late.

After changing into what she thought would be a good work outfit, a vintage Miranda Kate dress, she set to work trying to hone her design skills.

Her grandfather,  Bertram Jones, was there.

As was her Uncle, Zeus. He said he wanted to see what his niece could do, could she give him a makeover?

She thought she had improved Zeus’ look, he certainly seemed pleased. Until her new boss came in and introduced herself.

She wasn’t pleased with Enya’s outfit and gave her new clothes to get changed into, saying “Come and talk to me when you get back.”

Persimmon Davis, her new boss, raged at her. She said her original outfit as completely inappropriate and that she had given Zeus a terrible look.

Enya couldn’t believe it – this elderly woman, wearing a running jacket paired with a long flowing skirt was telling her she looked bad. What had happened to the once fabulous Miranda Kate studios? In fact, as she glanced around she noticed that aside from Zeus, everyone there was elderly. It seemed that nobody young wanted to shop here anymore.

As she left, to meet Eden for drinks, she felt terrible. How could she work somewhere that didn’t respect her fashion sense, that stifled her creativity?

She arrived in the bar first and decided to have a drink to pass the tme until Eden arrived. She couldn’t help eyeing up the barman.

Eden arrived and ordered herself a cocktail.

Enya launched into the story of her awful first day, hoping Enya’s amusing and simplistic take on life could cheer her up a little bit

“En – it’s totally obvious what you should do.” Eden began, grinning from ear to ear. “Forget Miranda Kate, they’ve had their day and if they aren’t going to use your talent then stuff them. Start your own line!”

Enya smiled. Of course, to have her own line was her dream, her ultimate goal. But could she really do it with no experience? Surely not. Still, it was a tempting idea.
